We flew to Toronto 20.08.2023 and rented our mobil home the next day in Barrie. The first night in the van was close to the rental agency in a place called Innisfil,in case the van had any major issues. Here we got our first impressions of camping in Canada and were amazed at the sizes of the camping vehicles. The next day we drove south from Barrie passing the Toronto skyline from the highway.
Our second night was in Kingston . Kingston was originally the capital of Canada from 1841 until 1844 but this status was moved to Ottowa because Kingston was considered too close to the enemy United States. Kingston is at the northern edge of Lake Ontario where it runs into the Lawrence River and the beginning of Thousand islands. Kingston is well known for one of the oldest universities in Canada,Queens University and for the Royal Military College of Canada.
Lancaster Park RV Camp at the St Lawrence river was our next stop. We carried on to Montreal and stayed at a RV Park in an area called Longueuil across the river from the old port of Montreal. We spent three days in Montreal. Here we have lots of impressions oft he city.
From Montreal we drove to Quebec and stayed in a RV camp in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures. Quebec was splendid and I have lots of photos to capture the magic.
From Quebec we drove northwards to Parc National De La Jaques -Cartier.
We spent a day there and had considered to camp in the park but decided to carry on north. We photographed animal foot prints in the park and later discovered they were bear and wolf footprints!!
Our night in Saguenay was not the best! The camps I had discovered in my camping app had already closed fort he winter !!We ended up staying on a supermarket parking lot and were spectators at a Saturday evening in Saguenay. The local teenagers and young families spent the evening on the parking lot with camping stools and loud music.
The next day we shopped for groceries and saw a huge cleaning robot move around the grocery store. Time was running out and so we headed south-west and landed up staying in La Tuque. It was a tiny camping place, with space for 5 RVs. The owner was an estate agent in Montreal and this was his retirement hobby. He was a „hunter! and told us( after our night on his camping lot) that in the last 3 years there he had shot 3 bears and about 5 wolves. The camping site was beautiful,at a lake and with it´s own beach.
From La Tuque we drove to Mount Tremblant ( a skiing resort in the winter). Here we saw our best foliage, the real indian summer. It was spectacular.
Time was running out and I didn`t want to miss Niagara Falls and so we took the long drive there and stayed at a KOA camping ground in the town of Niagara Falls.
Our last stop before giving back the RV was in Alliston close to Barrie( our point of return. Here I saw the much talked about migration of salmon swimming up the river to deposit the eggs. Also interesting was the mosquito netting around all of the tents. There definitely was a reason for that. We gave back the RV and headed for Toronto to catch the plane home.
Toronto, definitely worth a visit. A very european city, with lots to do and see. We headed back home on 9.10.2023.
